Another Norovember Day

Wow, I've done more knitting in the last couple of weeks than I have in the last year or so. Hats, hats, hats!

Inspired by Shannon's Jabba the Hat, I figured I had to knit me one too! The pattern is Noro Hat by Saartje de Bruijn and I knit it in Noro Kureyon color #102.

I went down a couple of needle sizes because I'm such a loose knitter, but I'm wondering if I should have gone down only one size. Anyway, I did have to employ the dread double points for the last few go-arounds. It's a fun hat and rather reminiscent of The Beehive in Wellington, New Zealand...

She's Pregnant!

My wonderful niece Christine and her husband Russ are expecting after many years of trying.

In honor of this momentous event, I knitted up a congratulatory hat and purchased a pair of Converse for the new little Miller.

In Remembrance...

My Grandfather Roy Samuel Niles (on left) - (b. 1896 d. 1979) U.S. Army. Served during World War I—France.

My Grandmother Margaret Maude Kruger Niles Weideman - (b. 1900 d.1990) U.S. Army Air Corps. Served during World War II. When her three boys enlisted, she up and joined the Army at the age of 41! She always joked she entered boot camp a size 18 and came out a size 12.

My Uncle Edward James Niles (on left) - (b. 1920- d. 2004) U.S. Army Air Corps. Served during World War II - European Theatre. My Grandfather is in the middle (shown above in the first photo) and my dad is on the right (love the Fedora's).

The three brothers: Uncle Ed on the left, my Dad, and Uncle Lloyd. My Uncle Lloyd Roderick Niles - (b. 1924-) U.S. Navy. Served during World War II - Pacific Theater (I really need to dig up a photo of him in his uniform).

My Father Ralph Raymond Niles (b. 1923 d. 1995) Merchant Marines. In times of war the Merchant Seamen are considered part of the armed forces. My father served during World War II (Pacific Theatre) and The Korean War. On December 29, 1944 my father lost a ship, the Hobart Baker Liberty ship, to a Japanese bomb. The Merchant Marines finally attained Veteran Status for their efforts during World War II in 1988.

Club Neighborhood 2007

In July I sang in my brother's annual big band extravaganza called Club Neighborhood.

I was in the Post Modernaires Quintet.

The quintet sang five numbers including Chatanooga Choo Choo and Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree.

It was a wonderful two hour show that transported the audience back to the glory days of Big Band.

Also, my wonderful sister-in-law did a hillarious Lucy Ricardo spoof, ending up singing String of Pearls in a cow costume!

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of her doing her bit; however, I'm sure someone has, I just have to hunt them down. I'd also love to get more video snippets (see Margaret singing a little ditty below), but I have to bribe the right people (hee!).

Sadly, this was the last year for Club Neighborhood. I was so touched and honored my brother asked me to participate. Lots of hard work (gosh those old 1940's harmonies are challenging), but so much fun!
